Heute erscheint via Interscope Records TRON: Ares (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) – brandneue Musik von Nine Inch Nails für den dritten Teil des bahnbrechenden TRON Film-Franchises. Das Album stellt die erste Score-Arbeit von Nine Inch Nails dar, nachdem die Bandkollegen Trent Reznor und Atticus Ross zuvor bereits unter eigenen Namen in diesem Bereich tätig waren und damit zwei Oscars, drei Golden Globes, einen Grammy sowie einen Emmy gewinnen konnten. TRON: Ares ist Sound-Architektur aus pulsierenden Synths, verzerrten Texturen und eindringlichen Melodien. Keine Sekunde Orchester. Das Album trägt die volle Kraft von Nine Inch Nails in sich, ein bedrohlich vibrierendes Werk voller Melancholie und Dynamik, in dem analoge Seele und digitales Grauen aufeinandertreffen.
Die New York Times beschrieb die Leadsingle „AS ALIVE AS YOU NEED ME TO BE“ als „a return to the buzz-bomb synthesizers, stomping march beat, stereo ricochets and gut-wrenching vocals of the band’s heyday.“ Der Track stieg auf Platz 1 der Official Physical Singles und der Official Vinyl Singles UK-Charts ein.
Zum zugehörigen Musikvideo schrieb Rolling Stone: „[Director Maxime Quolin] centers the clip around a close-up performance from Trent Reznor, while using an array of different effects to bend space and warp reality. For all the mesmerizing technical wizardry on display, there’s something distinctly tactile about the look of the video, especially as the tension in the visuals builds alongside the music.“
